| with them is that you have to constantly rev the piss out of them to get them moving.  They have no grunt down low.  It's a good thing that at least they rev up reasonably quick. I have a friend who had several different Honda models with VTEC (Integra GS-R, Prelude).  I got to drive all of them.  No doubt, pretty quick, but when you are revving them up. The other problem is the oil consumption rate.  It's not unusual to see a quart consumed every 1000 miles.  Lot's of people on various Honda forums complain about it.  Even some who track their car find the rate of consumption is incredible.  My friend went as far as to say that VTEC must be Japanese for "engine that likes to consume oil."
